آزمایش قطره روغن یک آزمایش انجام شده توسط رابرت میلیکان و هاروی فلچر در سال ۱۹۰۹ بود که منجر به اندازه‌گیری بار الکترون گردید.

وقتی قطره پایین می‌رود

این آزمایش در واقع بالانس بین نیروی رو به پایین گرانش و نیروهای رو به بالای اصطکاک و الکترومغناطیس در قطره‌های باردار روغن بود که این قطره‌ها بین دو الکترود معلق می‌ماندند. از آنجایی که چگالی روغن شناخته شده‌بود؛ جرم قطره‌ها معلوم بود و نیروی گرانشی مشخص می‌شد و زمانی که تعادل مکانیکی بین این نیروها برقرار می‌شد می‌توان گفت مجموع نیروهای اصطکاک و الکترومغناطیسی برابر با نیروی گرانشی می‌شد از طریق تکرار این آزمایش برای قطره‌های زیاد آنها توانستند به مقدار −۱٫۵۹۲۴(۱۷)×۱۰^−۱۹ C برای بار بنیادی برسند که کمتر از 0.6٪ نسبت به مقدار کنونی یعنی −۱٫۶۰۲۱۷۶۴۸۷(۴۰)×۱۰^−۱۹ C خطا دارد.
